Description

Did not use a source that was listed The book for this course HUM/105 is Leonard, S., & McClure, M. (2004). Myth & knowing: An introduction to world mythology. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill. An assignment should be done from this book with reference included. Please use own wordings Note: Assignment should be newly done not copied from another site from another student. Select one common divine role that recurs in world mythology. Cannot use Zeus and Odin Examples of divine roles include the following: father or mother divinities, divinities of war, home or hearth divinities, divinities of love, divinities of wisdom, divinities of medicine or health, divinities of the wind, divinities of agriculture, divinities of the sky, and ruler of all the gods.

There are others discussed in the reading. Select two myths, each from a different culture, in which the divine role appears (these must be complete stories in our materials, not parts of stories used as examples in the primary texts). Make sure you choose myths that allow you to answer each part of the prompt. Identify the two divinities' names, cultures, and the myth of origin [the title of the myth] in the first paragraph. Identify the single role they both fulfill. Write a response for both selected divinities to each of the prompts. Write in complete sentences and full paragraphs so that your points in each prompt stand on their own (that is, do not assume your reader has read the assignment directions). How is this divinity portrayed in the myth (the myth of origin)? Describe the divinity's role within the myth. [Do not retell the myth, but tell about some key actions that reveal the divinities' character and functions.] Is the divinity male or female? What function does this gender play in the myth? Within the myth of origin, how does this divinity compare with other divinities in the same myth? How does this divinity interact with or compare to divinities of the same gender and to divinities of the opposite gender? What are the divinity's attributes, such as divine powers or personality characteristics (you might decide some of these aspects from the actions the divinity takes)? What objects does the divinity possess that assist him or her (these might be weapons, animals, jewelry, or other objects)? Identify a fictional character from a contemporary culture who shares characteristics with each divinity and explain why you chose each character.

What real-life ideals does this divine role represent? How attainable and important are these ideals? Write a 150- to 350-word short essay (two to three paragraphs) that addresses why many cultures have divinities in similar roles. Support your points with specifics from the primary texts. Format your citations and references consistent with APA guidelines. You must use only our course materials as sources for this assignment, except for information about the fictional characters. Every source used must be cited and referenced. Page 1 has assignment details and 2 just an advice how to do work from the professor. The book for this course HUM/105 is Leonard, S., & McClure, M.
