• Assignment 1 has a weight of 25% in your overall assessment. Attempt both questions. Both carry equal weight. Each essay answer should be no more than 1500 words. The assignment is due at 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April (i.e. the day after ANZAC day). Since the University is currently closed, please email your answers to me as a PDF file. My email is p.gai@auckland.ac.nz.
• Avoid too much focus on current events and tangential issues in your answers. Concentrate on answering the questions in light of the models that you have encountered in class and in your readings.
• You may use maths and diagrams if you wish. If you do, then remember that, like any language, the purpose of maths and diagrams is to convey ideas succinctly. The idea is that you should not regurgitate the models in the slides, but rather use them judiciously to help make your point.
• Your answers should be your own work. Plagiarism can be detected via University software.
