Assignment 1 Historical SHORT Paper READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS For assignment #1, you will be submitting a Short Historical Topic Paper. This is a persuasive argument/opinion paper whereby you provide an opinion on a historical topic related to our course and then defend that opinion with evidence (outside sources). Even if your topic deals with a contemporary issue, you MUST base your paper around African American History. 

For example, a paper about stereotypes of Black women on television must include a discussion of the historical origins stereotypes such as jezebel or mammy. No historical analysis and you will not do well on this assignment. Below is an example: "In this paper, I will prove that Tupac Shakur is the greatest rapper of all time." "As recently as August 30, 2014, several internet hoaxes claiming Tupac is alive has renewed interest in the rapper such that Tupac Shakur fan clubs remain active and vibrant where members collect Tupac related products, get Tupac tattoos on their bodies and debate which Tupac album is the greatest." IV. Evidence #3 ---> "Tupac's lyrics and lifestyle has been the interest of study for both fans and scholars. In 1997, UC Berekley offered a course on the life and music of Tupac and many other universities followed suit such as the University of Washington which offered a class entitled "The Textual Appeal of Tupac Shakur" in 2003. In the edited volume of "Habitus of the 'Hood, author Chris Richardson explores how the study of Tupac's life helps us to understand the complexity of life in the 'hood." V. Conclusion---> I have sought to prove that Tupac is the greatest rapper of all time. I have provided evidence of his posthumous record sales which eclipsed that of living rapper artists, evidence of his vibrant and growing cult status amount fans and detailed how Tupac's life and music has been rigorously studied by fans and scholars alike. 

Therefore, based on the information I have provide, I have proven my thesis and can confidently conclude that Tupac Shakur is the greatest rapper of all time. Since this is a history class, you will need to use Chicago Manual of Style for your references. You will need both in-text (within the body of the paper) citations and full citations at the end of the paper. For in-text citations, the simple format is (author, date, page #) or you can use footnotes if you are so inclined. Please note: You must cite every bit of information that isn't your own words or ideas. One citation for any entire paragraph will not cut it either. I have provided a Chicago Manual of Style Guide below. I have also sent you a link to the APUS Course Guide on Chicago/Turabian style.
