Course Work:

At present, the two most popular VPN technologies are the traditional Internet Protocol Security (IPsec)-based VPNs, which function primarily at the network layer, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPNs, which function primarily at the application layer. These differ in both the underlying technology used, the function they serve, as well as in the potential VPN security risks they present.

Write a technical report (no more than 1500 words), to discuss and compare different VPN technologies, taking into consideration the following points:

1.         The implementation within the network stack

2.         Scope of usage and configuration

3.         Advantages and disadvantages of each technology

4.         Your recommendations in term of implementation scenarios and setup
