The government wants to reduce dependence on foreign oil and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Between 2012 and 2016 auto manufacturers fleets will all have to get an average of 35.5 miles per gallon (“First Research”, 2015). Auto manufacturers may struggle to meet these standards and even if they meet the standards it will be a financial burden.
