ENGL71000-02 (W20) Paper #3
(15%)
Based on the research question and annotated bibliography you
prepared on a topic related to environmental studies, formulate a preliminary
thesis for a research paper. Continue researching this topic, revising your thesis
as necessary as you learn more about your topic.
Support your thesis using evidence from textbook articles as
well as research from other sources.
Remember that you have the option of using articles from the databases
as well as video sources from Films on Demand (one of the databases in the LRC). Research must be scholarly and at the
college/university level. This means you
cannot just google it. If the bulk of your resources, other than
very recent news articles from credible news sources, do not come from the
library databases, you cannot pass the research component on the assignment
rubric.
The rubric for this essay is available in our course in
eConestoga under “Rubrics” and in the assignment folder. Read through the rubric before you write to
see what kinds of skills should be demonstrated. Note that correct use of APA is required to
get a good grade.
The essay should be approximately
1500 words (6 pages), but make the length suit the content. Use at
least four research sources IN ADDITION TO whichever essay(s) from the text
you decide to use in your research paper.
Create an APA title page and double-space the essay. Use 12 pt. font. A paper template is available
at the APA@Conestoga website.
If you are struggling to come up with an essay topic,
consider one of the questions from your textbook. They appear in the sections labelled “Writing
as a Reader: Entering the Conversation of Ideas” after each essay.
I am happy to discuss your topic with you if you have
concerns about its appropriateness, scope, or feasibility. See me in or after class or feel free to
email me.
