and their importance in key biological processes “.The assignment should be
written in essay format with use of diagrams as appropriate. (2000-2500 word
count). This assignment is in three parts:
Part A
Sickle cell anaemia is an inherited condition resulting
from a base change in the genetic material, DNA.
i.
Describe
how this base change results in a faulty protein molecule being made, that
produces the condition (AC 1.1)
ii Explain the inheritance pattern of the
condition, using completed genetic diagrams
(AC 2.1)
Part B
Cell
membranes have a structure which includes the following types of molecules: phospholipids; proteins;
carbohydrates.
For each
type of molecule
i. Outline
its chemical structure. (AC 1.1)
ii. Describe its role in membrane functioning. (AC
1.1)
Part C
Aerobic respiration is the process by which cells
obtain energy.
A series of enzyme catalysed reaction is required
for this process.
i. Explain the
relationship between the structure of enzymes and their function. (AC 1.1)
ii. Outline
the key stages which are part of aerobic respiration, explaining how ATP is
produced. (AC 3.1)
