In this assignment you are expected to sketch out a basic StageGate system, for a business organization of your choosing.
1. (15 points) Choose a business organization. You may choose Izmir Economics Universty as a familiar organization, your own or family business – if applicable, or any organization you find interesting and you are able to obtain some information about. In the first section of your homework give some basic information about the organization: a brief history of organization, its size, its market scope, and innovation context (e.g. where the demand is moving), what is the strategy of organization?
2. (40 points) Assume that you will put in place a StageGate innovation management for the organization of your choosing. Propose criteria for each of the gates. Briefly comment on how does the StageGate system and your criteria will ensure alignment of innovation process with organization’s strategy.
3. (15 points) Who in the organization would you assign as gate keepers? Explain your reasons.
4. (30 points) Read Chapter 14th of Paul Trott’s textbook, “Innovation Management and New Product Development”. Using the concepts there, develop a critique of the StageGate system you have just designed. Propose modifications to your system, and make sure that your proposals are clearly linked to theories in the textbook.
