Create a PowerPoint presentation describing the pros or cons for "no-drop policies,"

Description

In the wake of several recent headline-making cases, a public cry requiring body cameras on law enforcement officers has gained momentum. Many members of the public view body cameras as a way to "police the police." However, the opposite can also be seen as true. Police officer body cameras provide an impartial record of what occurs on each call, and in fact, might serve to help educate the public about various types of crimes with an eye toward prevention of those crimes.

Instructions

As the officer in the video states, while assessing an action plan for a domestic violence call, his officers will consider factors like past history and the relationship between the parties involved. He credits body cameras as being critical to the prosecution in cases where the victim refuses to testify, noting that "Our purpose in responding to these calls is to end the violence."

  • Do you think use of body cameras, as discussed in the video, will help combat domestic violence by making it easier to secure a conviction?
  • Would you favor releasing body camera footage of domestic violence responses as a public education tool for officers to use for education and prevention?
