Prepare three-five pages, written analysis of the selected primary source document (Typed, double -spaced) organized into the following sections: Summary, Context, Author and Purpose, and Audience.

Summary: summarize the document, explaining what type of document it is, what it is about, its key points, and its most significant feature, or main point. Use at least one quoted passage form the document to illuminate its content. (provide citations for all quoted passages). Keep quoted passages and words to less than 20% of the entire written document.

Context: Explain the historical context in which the document was produced. What was happening at the time the document was produced or during the era the document addressed? Explain how the historical era/context affected the content of the document. Use the narrative section and era. Include at least on direct reference to the preceding chapter of TWE in your explanation of the historical context. Outside sources may be consulted but are not required and should not be quoted in your essay be sure to provide bibliographic citations for all outside sources consulted.

Author and Purpose: you may find it helpful to do additional research abbot the author but keep your background information limited to just a few sentences. Identifying and challenging aspect of this assignment. It requires “reading between the lines” and drawing inferences about what principles and beliefs the author valued. Explain the author’s purpose for producing this document.

Audience: in identifying the intended audience, try to be as specific as possible. If the document was produced for a public audience, try to determine which segment of the public the author most wanted to reach. Understanding the author’s values and purpose will help you determine who the author was trying to influence and /or inform.

Include only quoted material form the textbook and document. Clearly indicate quoted material and include a citation. Do not copy or quote from any other source. If you consult additional sources for background research, include them in a bibliography.
