Description

INSTRUCTIONS: WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

Each week you will submit a short writing assignment that reflects on what you have learned that week through the Lecture Material and assigned reading, videos, or podcasts. The Reflections are not formal research papers but are spaces for you to flex your critical thinking skills and have a direct one-on-one ‘conversation’ with your Instructor.

Remember: One of the key purposes of the Reflection is to demonstrate that you have engaged with all assigned components of the weekly module.

REFLEXIVE JOURNALING

Reflections (also referred to as reflective journals) are a self-reflective tool that provide you with the opportunity to think deeply about the material and draw connections to what you already know. As a learning tool, reflective journaling:

  • enhances critical thinking skills and encourages you reach deeper levels of learning
  • increases your comprehension of course material and ability to apply those concepts in a wide variety of settings
  • enhances communication skills, self-learning, self- and social awareness, empathy, and sensitivity to cultural differences

WRITING GOALS

Your Reflection should:

  • demonstrate that you have completed the assigned readings/video/podcast
  • demonstrate critical thinking skills by integrating lecture material and readings
  • use correct grammar, sentence structure, and writing skills
  • cite your sources according to Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition).
  • let me hear your voice – what are your thoughts about the topic? What are you learning? What do you have questions about? Support your arguments with examples from the assigned materials and lecture.
