ETHICS PRESENTATION on MODERATION
A) Turn in a one page outline
B) Sketch your virtue on the board, along with the excess and deficiency, as an aid for the
class.
This presentation must include all of the following:
1) Clearly define your virtue: does it relate to actions or feelings, and which ones?
Describe in detail what the trait looks like, giving examples of people and actions that
embody it. Why chose this trait? What observations led you to it?
2) Clearly define the corresponding non-virtue(s) with regard to your virtue. If, as Aristotle,
your virtue is a means between extremes of excess and deficiency, give examples of
people and actions that demonstrate those poles and how we recognize them. If one
side is “more opposed “explain that.
3) Why is this virtue good to have? How does it support flourishing for individuals and
communities?
4) How can we best develop this trait, and also become aware of its lack and work towards
the mean?
5) Explain the difference that practical wisdom makes with regard to the virtue. What is
the awareness of “what is good at the highest level”?
