Description
Select a governmental program within a local, state, or federal agency to evaluate (e.g., Homeland Security, Department of Transportation, the state highway patrol, city's utilities department or police department, etc.). Your written organizational assessment will focus on four main areas:
- Efficiency: Determine whether the public organization uses its allocated resources (i.e., human, physical space, financial, etc.) efficiently to achieve the maximum productivity.
- Effectiveness: Evaluate the organization's effectiveness in terms of achieving program goals. Provide sufficient detail (including examples) to demonstrate program effectiveness.
- Equity: Analyze operations by looking for gaps in practices and procedures that may affect fairness, justice, and/or impartiality. Does the organization uphold federal, state, and local regulations and internal policies?
- Accountability: Analyze the size of the budget and whether the organization's funds are appropriate for the scope of the mission, goals, goods, and services. Discuss any budgetary constraints and reporting mechanisms that ensure the organization remains accountable and a good steward of public funds.
