Executive Summary

Fifteen years ago, Flurry Games started as project in a dorm room. Since then, we have expanded to a corporation with offices in five states and players from all over the world. Pirates of the Black Sky was hailed the fast-growing MMO three years in a row, and our launch for Pirates: Battle for the Clouds is set to be the biggest launch in our company history. Poised on the edge of the next level, we need to make sure we remember where we have been. We need to make sure our company is organized and ready to handle our new growth.

Two crucial components our company is currently lacking is a well-defined Records Management System and a company archives. A Records Management System would provide a company-wide system to organize our business records, reduce our legal liability, and would play a fundamental part of our company's disaster recovery plan. An archives would keep us connected with our past and allow us easy access to previous research. It would also be an additional way to reach out to both our players and shareholders.

To demonstrate how we could begin this process, I have created a sample retention schedule and archival series list. These two documents are the framework with which to move forward. I believe if my proposal is adopted, we should create a Records and Information Management (RIM) team. This team would organize and implement a Records Management System and create an archives. In the long term, they would stay current with the latest regulations and help to prepare and implement a company disaster recovery plan. The larger the organization is, the more inventory is generated. Records are an essential phase of a business that several people infrequently take the time to deliberate regarding them as a whole.
