Paper #3 --
Interpersonal Communication Research Project
Directions: For
this assignment you are to take a closer look at some aspect of interpersonal
communication that you would like to know more about. Remember, designing your own individual
project is part of the assignment. The sample
topics are for example and not to be used for a topic. Here are three options or approaches you could
take to complete this assignment. You could
combine two options as well if you want.
This could include:
1. Writing your own research paper by thoroughly
investigating from what is already out there.
This will require researching books, journals and academic websites and
other information to see what is out there.
This is basically a review of literature. Consider using https://elibrarymn.org/ and
checking the database Academic Search Premier.
Sample Topic --
How Teacher Self-disclosure affects students.
OR
2. Designing and conducting your own personal
project as to a skill or communication tool you want to apply into your own
life. You will need to explain how and 1.
Why you chose the skill / tool, 2. Some type of plan to improve the skill /
tool, 3. What happened throughout the process and any final reflection
EX -- How I intend to increase my expression of
emotions with my significant other.
Explain your why this skill, how I intend to improve and purpose and
what happens throughout this experience.
OR
3. Design and conduct your own research on a
communication skill, theory or idea.
EX -- Create a hypothesis and then go out to see if
your observation supports or negates your hypothesis. For example, woman will show more eye contact
in a conversation than men. Propose your
hypothesis and then write about what observations you made and what conclusions
can be made from your observations. This
one could be challenging with the stay and home orders.
Process:
1. Brainstorm some ideas for topics, write them
down and check in with me on zoom on May 6th or email me to determine
your topic and your hypothesis (what you are looking for in your
research). Wait to hear from me before
you start your paper.
2.
Conduct research and gather data.
3. Analyze data and write paper.
This
paper should be a minimum of 4 pages and will be worth 200 points. You should have a works cited page if you are
doing outside research. Your final paper
should be posted in D2L on May 13th.
