Text Box: WRITING ADVICE & RESOURCES

•	Standard Essay Format (PDF)
•	Basic Essay Format (PDF)

Your paper can be exploratory or position (argumentative). To learn more about the differences, read here: https://writingcenter.blogs.unr.edu/2015/10/28/the-differences-between-an-exploratory-and-argumentative-research-paper/

o	In an exploratory paper, you will ask a more open-ended question, e.g. “What does the research literature say about XYZ?” You may wish to state a hypothesis about what you think you will find. Your research paper will focus on summarizing the research about your topic according to what you found in your annotated bibliography.
o	In a position paper, you will create a thesis statement that will guide the essay structure. The goal of the paper is to create a well-crafted argument of a specific point, e.g. “In this paper, I will argue that gender norms reduce opportunities for women in the workplace.” Your research paper will focus on using research evidence to support your argument.
