Description

 ENGR 1304 AutoCAD Project Description

Overview

Cell phone use has dramatically increased in recent years. One result of this increased use is a need for cell phone protectors.

Project

Your task is to design and draw in AutoCAD a protective holder for your cellphone. The holder must be able to also serve as a phone stand and have a minimum of parts.

To receive full credit you will need to complete the following and submit to the appropriate eCampus drop box by Friday, May 1:

1. In one drawing you will submit an orthographic drawing of your assembled phone holder. There must be enough views to adequately describe your holder. Use the dimensioning rules we learned in class to dimension your holder. One of the views should be a section view.

2. In another drawing you will submit an orthographic drawing of the individual parts of your phone holder. These will be placed upon individual sheets. The individual parts must also be properly dimensioned.

Some important information about your design:

  • • Legibility counts. NO PART OF YOUR DRAWING MAY BE DONE BY HAND!
  • • On all orthographic drawings: be sure to use enough views to adequately describe the object. If an object requires three views (front, top, side) use three. If two are adequate use two.
  • • Use as few parts as possible. The more parts are required the more expensive the holder becomes.

Here are some suggestions to help you succeed:

  • • Draw a rough sketch of your phone holder. While you will not turn in the rough sketches they will be very helpful in producing your AutoCAD drawings. The sketch(es) do not need to be drawn to scale.
  • • Design a holder using the dimensions of your personal phone. Don’t waste time trying to make a “universal” phone holder.
  • • Keep your work backed up! It would be a disaster if you lost your project.
  • • Research existing phone holders to give you ideas. Improve on what already exists rather than just copy existing ideas.
  • • Decide what parts will be made of plastic and what will be made of metal
