Challenges
in design implementation
It
was difficult to come up with the most effective way to design the database.
Initially, the entities consisted of a large list of entities that was gradually reduced and refined to the
number of the entities that are represented in the schema .This was
largely due to the fact that it is difficult
deciding whether to represent a
concept as an entity , relationship or attribute.
There
are numerous design possibilities of the clinical database. This made it hard
to determine whether any particular design decision was right or wrong .Given
that ,the resulting is an
interpretation of the organization’s
data needs. In addition, the role of the
concepts within the organization was
considered.
The
design chosen is mainly focused on data
that is gathered within the hospital as noted by the emphasis in creating
entities such as diagnosis ,laboratory ,medication and tests .This is due to
the fact that the organization is focused on data that is produced within the
clinic that can then be used by all the entities in the organization that
include researchers, Nurses and clinicians. In essence ,priority was given to
the collection of data that is produced throughout the treatment process of a
patient as this data is of core value to majority of the entities in the clinic
