Using Turnitin for Assignments Final Assessment Paper About This Assessment There is no midterm or final proctored or unproctored examination in this course. Rather, an 8- to 12-page paper, whose topic is described below, acts as your final assessment and is worth 50 percent of your grade. You must submit the final paper by Saturday of the last week of the semester. Instructions Your final paper should be a critical analysis of the course materials as they relate to the paper topic.

Your starting point should be the outline that you submitted for Written Assignment 4. Remember, if you made significant changes to the outline after it was graded and reviewed (which is permissible), be sure to contact your mentor and ask him or her to reevaluate it. As you discuss the issues required in the paper, you are expected to compare and contrast the books you were assigned for this course and to draw conclusions. Do not just discuss each book independently. Although you may call on relevant information presented in your online discussions and written assignments, you are expected to present fresh insights based on your perspective now that you have read all the books in the course. Citations/references from the class materials and beyond must be identified. Additional research to better understand the context of the writing is encouraged. Your final assessment should be well developed and convey your understanding of the readings and concepts. It should also adequately answer the question. Your paper should be organized, coherent, and unified; it should also be free of spelling and grammatical errors. If you need help in writing such a paper, take a look at The Writing Center: University of Wisconsin-Madison. When quoting or paraphrasing from the text or other sources, be sure to cite the source of information properly according to MLA or APA guidelines (see also Basic Documentation Rules). Final Assessment Paper Topic Based on your reading of the four books required in this course, evaluate the uniqueness of the contribution of these South African and African writers of autobiography to the field of literature. Discuss -- and compare and contrast as appropriate -- the themes (personal, social, and political), perspective, approach, and voice used in each book. Explain how the books contribute to an understanding of life in an oppressive society. Grading Rubric If you are interested in knowing how your paper will be graded, download the rubric from the Final Assessment Grading Rubric folder. It shows the standards for grading, telling you what would constitute an "A" paper, a "B" paper, and so on. Copyright © 2015 by Thomas Edison State College. Provide an introduction that states the main idea of the paper and a conclusion that restates and supports the main idea of the paper. You are expected to list sources you intend to use in the preparation of your paper. Because you have not yet completed your study of Zenzele: A Letter for My Daughter, the last required book in the course, we suggest that you skim the material on that book in the study guide so that you can estimate how it will fit into your paper. For this reason and because this is a preliminary outline, it can change. If you decide to make significant changes after you submit the outline, you should relay them to your mentor. Formulate the outline in your own words. When it is appropriate to use quotations or paraphrase from your text materials or other sources, be sure to cite your sources properly by giving page numbers in parentheses or using footnotes or endnotes. When you have completed the assignment, proofread it for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation before submitting it to your mentor.Hello, I thought you were helping me out with the English Literature African Encounters AssignmentQuestion: Written Assignment 4 Prepare an initial outline of your final assessment paper.
