1. Confidentiality
Pretend you are the owner of a small company or principal investigator of a research group that
is on the cutting edge of manufacturing technology. You are constantly prototyping and
developing new designs for your products. Write a short report outlining how you would
maintain confidentiality/trade secrets. Be sure to include the following:
a. A description your company/group (i.e. how many people, what type of personnel turnover, etc.)
b. Practical approaches you can take to maintain confidential information. Be specific (i.e. “be confidential with information” is insufficient; “building is locked at night” is getting closer).
c. How would you decide when to file for a patent versus keeping your designs a secret?
