Instructions:

Regular repeated experiences in the outdoor environment allow children to explore, question, discover, and investigate the endless wonders of the natural world. Nature offers children many wonderful learning experiences in science and math.

Review the notes on Best practices for connecting to children to nature.

Complete the following:

1.      Design one learning experience appropriate for the group of children to support their connection to nature.

One learning experience that is appropriate for a group of children is the shape walk. This is where children can explore shapes in the outside environment. We will have an indoor activity before going out that each Example: Sticks have circler ends, and some leaves are shaped like triangles.

2.      Explain three of the best practices that you have supported in your nature experience with the children.

The three best practices that I have supported in my nature experience is

3.      Explain how you will support the children’s curiosity in your nature experience.

I will support children’s curiosity by having an activity done before going for a walk I will have each of the children make shapes to hold for our walk, and during our I will engage with the children by asking “what shapes do you see?” and have the children answer. After I will have the children go and find as many things in the environment that is the same shape they are holding for about 2 minutes, then have the children bring them we sit in a circle all together and I will call out a shape and each student with that shape will show the class what they have found that matches their shape they are holding.

4.      Identify age group for your experience and explain how the experience is appropriate for this age group.

The age group that is appropriate for my learning experience would be older toddlers and pre-schoolers. This experience is age appropriate as most children at that age would be able to identify and find other shapes that match the shape they are holding. As well as they would be able to follow simple directions that are given to them.
