Research Paper
The research paper will be a work of original research conducted by each student working alone.
There are no group options here. The research paper will focus on one of the key terms of the
semester, which will be posted after the second week of the semester. Each student will send me
their top five choices of terms that they would be interested in researching. The research terms
will be assigned on a first come, first served basis, hence the need to submit your top five
choices. Your choices should be submitted to me by the end of the fourth week. Students who
have not picked a topic will have one chosen for them. The research paper is worth 10% of the
course grade. The research paper will conform to the following criteria if the student expects to
achieve full points for their work:
- The paper will be no less than 6 pages, not including the bibliography, title page, and table
of contents
- The paper will include a bibliography, title page, body and table of contents
- The body of the paper will have at least two diagrams
- The diagrams should not occupy more than 25% of the space of the body of the paper
- The paper will conform to current APA or IEEE formatting rules
- The paper will be submitted before Friday at midnight of the 13 th week of class.
- The paper will contain research that elucidates the following:
1. Why the technology associated with the term was created?
2. What preceded it?
3. What are the underlying technologies it relies upon and why?
4. What does the technology associated with the term do?
5. Where is the technology associated with the term found?
6. Who developed the technology associated with the term?
7. When was the technology associated with the term developed?
8. What subsequent technologies will follow or have followed the technology
associated with the term?
