Introduction We have discussed in class two approaches to analyzing systems:
1. Soft systems methodology (SSM) – intended to provide a way to understand issues and problems in the context of introducing IT applications. SSM includes two modeling techniques – Rich Pictures and Activity Models, and an analysis approaches – CATWOE.
2. Systems Dynamics - developed as a way to analyze the behavior of complex systems (with many factors which can affect each other). We discussed one modeling technique used in systems dynamics - Causal Loops. The purpose of causal loops is to depict quantitatively feedback relationships in (complex) systems. Systems dynamics enables also quantitative analysis and there are software packages to simulate the behavior of systems described with the use of systems dynamics models.
