The ability to generate feelings of compassion and caring
is truly a unique trait that all successful leaders share. Unfortunately,
charisma is not enough to motivate and maintain quality people in this
competitive business climate and retention of these individuals is essential to
maintain the required professionalism that is obligatory for the business
existence.
As leaders what are we doing to consistently maintain and
improve our leadership and people skills and then transferring that growth into
our people and the organization. Every leader that I know personally, has had
the ability to mobilize numerous people in the same direction for the common good
of the organization and show the compassion and understanding for people on a
tremendously high level. Without question Coyte Cooper resonates deeply with me
professionally and personally.
I’ve always tried to lead by empowering and motivating
individuals in a positive tone, the statement by Coyte Cooper “[l]eadership is
all about making decisions that will influence the people around us in a
positive way. When you learn to add value to these individuals, you will build
credibility with them, and they will be more likely to follow you in your
pursuit to realize your vision” (Cooper,2014, p.6).
This statement had the ability to make me reflect on my
leadership skills, currently I’m the Athletic Director for a youth sports
organization with over three hundred volunteer who work with children annually
in various educational and sports programming activities. What actions as a
leader have, I taken to add value to these individuals and build credibility
with them and have I done anything or created a climate that may have devalued
these individuals and damaged my credibility and respect for me and the direction
and vison of the organization.
Coyte Cooper in my opinion was spot on with his
definition of leadership and what we need to do to inspire these individuals
and make them mental stakeholders in the vision and growth of the organization.
It has been stated, in the old proverb you can catch more flies with honey than
with vinegar, is also true in the world of leadership. The leaders that
motivate and inspires others with positive caring influences have the greatest
impact on their team and organization.
Cornealius C. Simmons : Leadership Statement
Leader’s will consistently motivate and
encourages the positive accomplishments of their team. Finding ways to
challenge each individual to maximize their talents and creating an atmosphere
that every knows, you don’t have to be a leader to lead and care about the
success of your co-worker/ teammate and the organization.
