Submission
date: Tuesday
18th March 2020 22:30 UK time
Submission
instructions
There will be a MISECDL Portfolio 1 dropbox
in the Assessments section of the MISECDL Moodle Module.
You must use the designated Front-sheet as the first page of your coursework
General
instructions
Read
the Tasks carefully and
ask if you are unsure of what you are expected to deliver.
Questions -
will be answered via a discussion thread in the Coursework Questions
Forum in Moodle.
Correct UK English grammar and spelling is
expected in business writing. Serious failings in English usage will result in
lower marks. Good communication skills are inherent in the unit learning
outcomes.
This assessment comprises 50% of your mark for this unit.
Anonymity of work
All work must be submitted anonymously. You should therefore ensure that you do not include your name anywhere on
your work, either in the main body of your report, the appendix, or in any
headers or footers. Use your Student ID
number only.
Coursework Tasks:
ALL
tasks must be answered. Total word count: 2000 ± 10%
Task 1 is based on the Lufthansa case study
in Section One on Moodle.
Tasks 2 and 3 MUST be related to your
Website Client for WebMDDL (see Note 1)
Tasks 4 - 6 may be answered in relation to
another company known to you - See Note 2 for
details
Task |
Description
|
Max Marks |
1 |
Contribute to the discussion on Moodle
about the Lufthansa case study question.
See section 1 learning material. |
5 |
2 |
Produce a quote and contract for the development and ongoing
maintenance of their website and explain how you will manage the relationship
with the Client. |
10 |
3 |
Explain what Legal aspects they and their website need to comply with
and how this will be achieved. Discuss any ethical issues. See Note 1 below |
10 |
4 |
Different job roles need different information at different times,
presented differently and different levels of detail. Explain the different
roles required for your website client (Note 1)
and their information needs. If this is difficult for your website client See Note 2 below |
5 |
5 |
In IT/IS strategy terms explain where they are now and where they
need to be to support their Business strategy / plans for the future. Section
2 If your website client employs less than 5 people, please imagine
that they have grown (as a result of your excellent website of course ??)
to employ 5 to 10 people and therefore have some sort of management structure
in place. |
10 |
6 |
What are their options for resourcing their IT/IS for their needs now
and in the future to support growth. See Note 2 below |
10 |
|
TOTAL |
50 |
Note 1
You
have chosen a company / sole trader / club to build a website for your WebMDDL
module. Please use that website client (company / sole trader / club ) as a
basis for your answer.
Link to portfolio WebMD DL “find yourself a client. There are many small
businesses/organisations out there who won't say 'no' to a free website. Do you
know a band who would appreciate a site? A charity shop? Family restaurant?
Church? Local society or group? etc ….... “
Note 2
If your
website client is a single person, you may find it difficult to answer this
task for them. If this is the case, you may choose another (smallish) company
or department of a company that you are familiar with - maybe one that you work
for or another company that you have dealt with.
If you wish to do this your MUST inform Kathy (kathy.parker@port.ac.uk) stating why your website client is not
suitable and what company you wish to use and why.
Please Note: Generic or theoretical
answers will result in zero marks for that task.
The Deliverable
The deliverable is a written (business
style) report for the management of your website client containing the elements
2 to 6 in the table above. Task 1 will
be in the Moodle discussion forum.
The word limit GUIDELINE is 2,000 words +/- 10%. You should divide this between
the questions using the % of the question mark as a guide to how much is
expected per section.
However, this is only a guide, as marks are
allocated for good content, clarity of expression and pertinent facts. If you
write 900 words of repetitive or irrelevant information you will not get good
marks!
Every
resource you use must be
correctly referenced, in accordance with the Harvard guidelines APA 6th ed (UoP policy). If you use a resource and don’t mention
it, you are liable to face the UoP disciplinary process on a plagiarism rap;
this can result in exclusion from the University.
If your work is significantly similar
to another person’s I will have to act in accordance with the
University’s regulations. However, talking about this coursework with your
friends/study group should not result in your work being identical to theirs.
