Description
The goal of this assignment is for the student to establish the machining time for a part and prepare a quote. Two different tooling packages will be evaluated. The cost of producing different batch sizes will be presented in a formal quote letter.
You will need to watch the video introducing the part and tooling for this assignment. An excel file will
need to contain all calculations and a Word document will be generated as a formal quote. The
following are requirements your files need to follow:
Excel File
o Must show all calculations in an orderly manor
o The machining time must be broken down by setup and machine time
o Two different sheets tabs showing both standard and new tooling must be made in the same file. Both sheets need to have the same look/calculations and design to allow clear communication and comparison of tools
o Cost of manufacturing the parts need to be done in batch sizes of 10, 100 and 500 parts
o Max depth of cut for the turning tool is 0.050in per side and Finish cuts are 0.010in deep o A setup time of 30 mins is required to run a batch and will be amortized in the batch
o The shop rate is 100 $/hour
o The chuck requires a minimum of 1.5 inches to hold the material for machining
o Time to advance the material and chuck it is 20 seconds
o Time to change to a new bar is 3 minutes
o Each bar starts at 12 feet long
o Tool changes from one tool to the next takes 10 seconds
o Must show how much material is to be ordered for each batch size (to the nearest bar)
