BTEC640 Final Report Specifications

The goal of this final report is to demonstrate your skills in (R) markdown, git/GitHub, and the Linux command line (bash) to analyze data and prepare a technical report on the results. The analysis will be on data related to the COVID–19 pandemic, including sequencing data as well as tabular data of case numbers, etc. This is the culmination of all we have learned in the course.

This report should be written such that it could be read and understood by any trained biologist (e.g. a colleague at your company or in your research lab).

Specific Skill Learning Outcomes By the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Develop testable questions based on discussion of current research

2. Demonstrate the ability to answer these questions by analyzing tabular and sequencing data (with a specific focus on SARS-CoV–2 sequences and COVID–19 case data)

3. Complete such analyses using current best practices for scientific computing, including scripting their analyses on the command line or using the R programming language, documenting their code, working with remote servers, and using version control

4. Collaborate effectively to analyze bioinformatic datasets, and understand how to give constructive feedback on overall workflow approaches and specifics of implementation
