Description

The greatest value in a course such as VoIP Telephony comes from applying the concepts, theories, applications, and devices explored throughout the class. This project gives you an opportunity to select a topic in which you are interested and apply concepts and applications from readings, exercises, current devices, and class discussions. The course project allows you to apply the tools from the course to assess a problem, diagnose its sources, and recommend a course of action. In developing the project, assume that your manager has requested a thorough analysis and a recommended course of action for a problem that could be resolved by a VoIP application.

Some examples are a deployment plan for a VoIP solution, recommendation for specific VoIP solution, or a marketing plan for a VoIP application. Think of yourself as a consultant. Tackle a VoIP problem in a specific organization of interest to you. Course project preparation This term paper gives you an opportunity to select a topic in which you are interested and apply concepts and applications from readings, exercises, current best practices, and class discussions. Write a term paper in which you introduce the issue, define the problem, search the literature, analyze the problem, offer possible solutions, propose a single solution, develop an implementation plan, and justify why/how your solution will solve the identified problem. Your VoIP/IP Telephony project will be objectively evaluated based on the following criteria.

To facilitate your Network Design Project's creation, please utilize the following four (4) sections as subheadings. The "Writing Quality and Flow" is the last section (worth 30 points) on which you will be evaluated… as it relates to the other four sections. Introduction *Must be 1.5-2 pages* Provide a complete description of the topic you selected, and identify the specific IP Telephony/VoIP issues. In this section, spend time defining and describing your project and present background/facts that will enable the reader to clearly understand the topic. Providing a thorough understanding and clear articulation of the project's topic is critical to the successful development of the rest of your project. The Introduction should help the reader envision the project and how you propose to accomplish it. The Project statement *Must be 2-3 pages* The project's problem statement should be the driving force behind the project. It should include the purpose or specific result expected from the project and achieved through the project objectives and activities. It should include the criteria against which everything done on the project is measured.

A good problem statement is specific, measurable, and realistic. The problem statement should not change during the course of the project. Identify and clearly state the problem(s) and issues. If there appears to be more than one problem/issue, decide if they are separate or related issues. Analysis *Must be 3.5-5 pages* A significant section of the project is providing a detailed description of the causes of the problem/issue(s) that you have defined in the Problem Statement section. Be sure the causes you identify relate directly to the problem/issue. You must effectively apply course material. Integrate your findings from your review of the literature in your analysis. Discuss the concepts, ideas, or insights that are most valuable in helping you make sense of your project. This is not a course in applied commonsense, so support your analysis with appropriate research. This section should tie together the problem statement and project goals. Cite all sources. This section and the implementation plan are the most important sections of your project. Start thinking this through as soon as you have defined your problem statement.

It is important to spend significant time in working through this section of the plan. Recommended Solution & Implementation *Must be 3-4.5 pages* Explore the solution(s) that could be appropriate to solve the identified problem/issue(s). Be sure the solution(s) is/are logical based on your analysis and that the solution(s) would effectively treat the problems, not the symptoms. Also, discuss the anticipated outcomes (both positive and negative) of implementing each of the possible solution(s) you identified. Describe exactly what should be done and how it should be done, including by whom, with whom, and in what sequence. Your implementation plan should include any recommendations you may have for the manager, a high level timeline, and identify any risks.

This section should also contain a fallback plan if the proposed implementation should fail. This section should be developed in conjunction with the analysis section. This section will describe, in words, how the manager will implement your proposed solution. References You must use no less than six (6) resources outside your textbook. Cite all sources. All references must be cited in two places: within the text and on a references list. Choose references judiciously and cite them accurately.
