Intent: The intent of the Summary Papers is to put together what you have understood about a thinker or issue after reading and following the lectures. They are intended to test your ability to accurately describe what a thinker is trying to say. They are less formal than the longer Essays and the grading is less involved. They will be graded on a 5 point scale which includes grammar and content. Grammar is important to accurately convey your point and to demonstrate that you are professional enough to proofread your own work. Hence, for perfect points, make sure you do both. Content is largely about “engaging the text” which means that you have read, understood, and referred to the text in your answer. Hence, for perfect points you will not only answer the question, but will at least briefly quote and/or refer to specific passages in the texts.
