Description
You will produce a 5 minute video presentation of a case study of a selected digital media application which is used in a specific context for a particular communication strategy. You may choose your own example and can use any visual approach you like - e.g. slides with voiceover, presentation to camera using visual aids or a mix of both (using a phone is fine or you can use webcam with slides).
The presentation should clearly explain what the technology/application is to the viewer (although you don't need to have a physical example), the context of use that you want to discuss and the goal or strategy of communication for which it is being used. It should briefly include the following:
- Introduction: how the 'technology' works, including a brief overview of its development history and giving examples of various real world applications in different contexts
- Context: Describe the specific context/domain of your choice where it is being used and the motivations and benefits of its application here
- Analysis: Outline the strategy or purpose behind the deployment of the technology in this context. How does the technology achieve the communication aims?
- Point of interest: One element of the application you want to focus on in more detail - design challenges/successes, application distribution, constraints, user issues etc. Anything of interest or that may be relevant for future development.
- Wrap: key points for viewer to take away
The should focus on communicating to the viewer about design & development, the information structures and flows that allow the application to achieve its goals, the user experience, deployment/cost issues, technical specifications, domain and context history and any other relevant factors in assessing your chosen digital media application.
