10% Project 1
Multicultural Issues in the News
Instructions
This first project is
intended to provide you the opportunity to learn more about one of Canada’s
diverse communities. Read the rubric
to learn what you need to include in your submission to achieve your desired
grade. The next project will be graded the same way.
Step 1:
·
Locate one website article or
video news story that features a specific Indigenous,
refugee, or immigrant community or group. See the posted example for ideas.
The article must be written in the last 3 years.
·
Write an APA reference for
the article using the APA
@ Conestoga website.
Step 2:
·
You
need to answer only two questions from the list.
·
Write between 200-300 words for
each question:
1. Mandatory
question: Briefly summarize the main ideas in the article and introduce the Indigenous,
refugee, or immigrant group. Discuss
how the situation described in your article relates to course concepts learned
so far.
2. Define
the terms cultural relativism and cultural sensitivity. Discuss how to
apply the two concepts in gaining more understanding, acceptance, and appreciation
of the group in the article.
3. Evaluate
whether or not the population in the article is portrayed in a positive or a
negative manner. Explain why you think the author chose to take this
perspective and what this says about how Canadians might view the group in the
article.
·
Combine
your answers into a single Word or PDF document.
Double space. Include an APA formatted cover page using the APA
@ Conestoga website. Assignments submitted in
multiple files will not be graded.
