This is an assignment to study the history of China within a time period. We need to finish the assigned readings and films, to create a timeline and a summary of the readings/films with quotable sentence and takeaway message

I think the easiest way to do it is: you first have to finish the assigned readings and films, then you write the summary first. When you are reading or watching the film, you can take notes of the turning points or big events that could be the content of the timeline.
For the timeline, you can do it with this format:

Why (if applicable):

So what:
For the summary, it doesn’t need to be very detailed. You could simply finish the assigned readings/films, and make the summary with your own words. Here’s an example:
