This is an in class individual work, that should be done using the Ubuntu VM, you created for this class. No other Linux version will be accepted.  This activity will count as 10points towards your Lab1.  Submit answers for this exercise in this word document via BlackBoard / LAB.    Plagiarize work with be given a zero grade.

 

 

Task A: Using the Linux Ubuntu VM

Note: Your screenshots must be clear enough to understand what is on the image.

Each command and results of that command should be given. You will lose points if screenshots are not clear and go with the right question.  D0 NOT USE the “root” account when performing the following tasks, you will lose points.

 

 

Open a Terminal Console and perform the following.   [10mks.]

Note: all screenshot should be shown from the Terminal Console window NOT from the GUI window.  You will lose point otherwise.

 

1.      Create one new directory and 2 files inside that directory.  Give each file an Identifiable name.

2.       System CPU & memory information

 

a.      Change to your home (~) directory

 

b.      Display the contents of the home directory showing file permissions and date/time. [Hint: use long option]

                                            i.            What is the total memory size of your virtual machine?

d.      What is the model name of the processor and speed in your Linux virtual machine?

                                                            ii.      Show screenshot of just the above sections … not the entire information given

 

3.      Remove one of the files from the directory.

                    i.            Give the full command used

                  ii.            Show that the file was removed from the folder.  

4.      Explain the difference between “root user” and “regular” standard user on the Linux system. Also, state or show how each account type can be identified.
