This project is an opportunity to critically assess how Latinos are represented in a form of media that we often consume but do not always scrutinize. This project requires that you present a critical analysis of a movie of your choice (relating to Latinos/as in the U.S.) that applies relevant course material. A critical review presentation is a reasoned, evaluative analysis of a movie in which you discuss the movie using as much of your acquired knowledge from class as you can. You should consider the author’s/filmmaker’s biography, suspected intent, the film’s messages (ethnic/racial, moral, economic, gender, national, etc.) and implications (“moral of the story” and/or policy recommendations). Your presentation must involve thoughtful analysis of the movie using course material and integrate clips from the film that you screen to the class and use to bolster your arguments. Expected time requirement: 10-15 minutes, with maximum 5 minutes total of video excerpts for a total of 15-20 minutes.
