To understand government careers, one has to understand how various governments are structured, including the breakdown by sectors—for example, federal, state, county, and local. One way to understand the breakdown in governments is to visit a professional association relevant to the government, for example, for those interested in county government it might be the National Association of Counties. Select one unit or sector of government and, in your formal post, describe some of the challenges facing leaders in that unit or sector. Additionally, select a career area and describe how one might advance in that career within the government unit or sector. The information you gather on this web visit may also be helpful in preparing the Professional Development Memo assignment.
