Description

1. What is the research question addressed by the researcher(s) in this study?  Answer in one statement, presented in question form.   The research question is the question studied by the scientists who conducted the study.  It should include the variables manipulated and/or measured, and identify the population of interest.

2.What are the central concepts, and what is the theoretical point of view guiding the research?  List and define the most important concepts specific to this study, which will include the main variables.  Use outside sources to obtain psychological definitions of the terms used in the article.

After defining the concepts, identify the most relevant theoretical perspective(s) (i.e., psychodynamic, behavioral, humanistic, biological, evolutionary, sociocultural, and cognitive) and present a rationale as to why the perspective is relevant.  The rationale should describe the main focus of the perspective and how it relates to what was done in the study.

3.This question is about information presented in the article.

Is the study experimental or correlationalExperimental studies have an independent variable (that is, a manipulated variable; the "cause") and a dependent variable (which is a measured variable; the "effect").  Correlational studies do not have a manipulated variable; all the variables are measured. List each variable separately, and identify the type of variable as manipulated or measured.

What were the results or findings of the study?  In other words, how were the variables found to be related? Results are about the participants and are stated in the past tense.

5.What implications emerge from the conclusions?  Implications are far-reaching consequences.  They go beyond the conclusions.  Implications are about what could be done or should be done if the conclusions are accepted as true.  For this question, do not evaluate the validity of the conclusions and discuss limitations of the study.  Instead, focus on what is important about the study if the conclusions are accepted as being valid.  Answer in one or two sentences.
