RESOURCE KIT ASSIGNMENT
What is this
assignment all about?
For this
assignment, you will work to create a strategies kit,
which will include
three concrete materials to support children with exceptionalities (regardless
of age), and a description of each material and how it is used. You will
also be presenting your materials and folders to the class on our last day.
Please consider creating or choosing materials that will support children that
you are working with.
What do I
have to complete?
1. Develop ONE visual aid for transition
or communication support: This might include a social story,
picture schedule, sand timer, first-then board, or picture lanyard.
2. Develop ONE mobility/sensory aid: This
might include an adapted book (e.g. magnet book) for children who have
difficulty turning pages of a book, finger grips for a pencil, tools to
manipulate sensory objects.
3. Develop ONE aid for behaviour/emotion
regulation: This might include a token system, an emotion
regulation/labeling board, or a fidget toy for children who need constant
movement to focus
4. Create a “kit”: Each
strategy can be presented using a two-sided folder, with one side for images of
the created material, and the other side for an explanation of how and why it
would be used. You must provide a rationale as to which populations of children
could benefit from each material using scholarly articles or reputable
websites. This must be typed. Place images of the materials on one side of a
folder, and a description of the material, what it is used for, and how it can
be used on the second side of the folder.
5. Presentation:
On our final day of classes, you will bring in the materials that you have
created, and the folders to present to the class in groups.
