professional, Melanie she came with glowing references from her previous place
of employment at the largest hospital in the province. After initial 3 months
of training in which she did very well, now her completion of tasks is
untimely, incorrect (sometimes to the point of potentially life threatening
Identification mixups), she arrives late for work, takes extended breaks and is
not overly pleasant with clients. You are concerned about her performance.
You have called Melanie in for a meeting to
discuss the issues. Using the goal setting theory, create 3 SMART goals to
address Melanie’s performance.
Examples:

decrease in ID error rate by 5% within the next 3 months
·
Melanie must complete
100% of tasks assigned by the manager with 0 errors within one month
Scenario 2
Your assistant has started coming in late to
work with a take-out coffee in hand, and is frequently on her personal phone
engaged in non-work discussions. She is first out of the door at the end
of the day and resists all requests to ‘go the extra mile’.
However, the work that she does is excellent although she is late in submitting
it. Provide one example from each of the reinforcement concepts (positive
reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment and extinction) and discuss
how you would address her performance. Explain how each would work.
