Description

A.) You would like to setup an IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN works in 2.4 GHz ISM band. Assume the antenna gain of the wireless access point is 2.2 dBi and the transmitter power is 20mW, and the antenna gain of the wireless adapter is 2 dBi. The minimal required received signal power (receiver sensitivity) is -68 dBm for 150 Mbps and -90 dBm for 9 Mbps. Assuming other attenuation is negligible and only free space loss need to be considered, calculate the transmission range for data rate 150 Mbps and 9Mbps, respectively.

B.) In the above question, if you need to double the transmission range for data rate 150 Mbps, how should you select the antenna with different gain? Determine the minimum antenna gain needed for the AP (assume the wireless adapter is the same).
