Film Review Assignment-Worth 20% of final grade.

 

Due Date: Please refer to your critical path. Submit into the online dropbox in the course website. Include your full name and ID# on a title page. Your review should be a minimum of 3 pages, to a maximum of 4 pages (1000 words) in length, using any regular 12 point font and double-spacing.

Choose one of the following movies to write your review on. No substitutions please.

Write a film review of your chosen movie that includes a theme related to philosophy.

Your essay should include a clear thesis statement about the overall theme of the movie (how it deals with any of the philosophical issues we’ve focused on in the course).  Your thesis needs to be supported by the explanation of how certain scenes or elements are used in the movie to demonstrate this theme.

Take note:  You need to include at least 5 reputable sources in your review.  These should include at least one or two peer-reviewed sources. The textbook counts as one source.

 

 

 

 

Introduction and thesis statement.  What is the main theme of the movie, and how will you be supporting your analysis? What is the philosophical issue it raises or investigates?

 

Worth 3 marks.                                     

Plot and story.  Provide a very brief plot overview, focusing on the elements of the story that relate to your thesis.

 

Worth 2 marks.                                           

Argument and supporting evidence.  Which elements of the film support the theme/thesis you have identified? Looking for the strength of explanations and relations to the theme. 

 

 

 

Worth 10 marks.

Research/Bibliography.  Must include at least 5 reputable sources. The textbook counts as one source. Also reference the movie you watch.

 

 

Worth 3 marks.

Editing, grammar and organization.  Your essay should be clearly organized and carefully edited for proper spelling and grammar.

 

 

Worth 2 marks.
